Tony Leon and Son Latino

Born in Havana, Cuba, Tony Leon launched his singing career with Los Melodicos. He went on to work with the Niño Rivera Group and the distinguished Modelo de Miguelito Cuni band.

Tony arrived in New York in 1979 and became soloist for renowned trumpeter and orchestra leader Alfredo ‘Chocolate’ Armenteros. Their album, Prefiero el Son, recorded with S.A.R. Records, went gold. His years with Chocolate included group concerts, where he worked alongside music greats such as Roberto Torres, Linda Leida, Papaito, Alfredito de la Fe, Alfredo Valdes, Jr. and Marino Solano.

In 1987, he became the lead singer for José Fajardo y Sus Estrellas. It was the legendary flutist and band leader, José Antonio Fajardo who gave Tony his title: El Leon del Bolero.

Tony has performed in concerts with Willie Chirino, Ray Baretto, David Valentino, Cachao, Hansel y Raul, Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco. He continues to delight audiences with his unique voice and mastery of the bolero.
