Flier for Borscht Belt talk at Lincoln Depot Museum

Borscht Belt – Artifacts From The Catskill Resort Age

To those who never visited, they were just some big hotels up in the mountains.

For many – the lucky ones, they were remote and magical escapes for hard-working New Yorkers from the hectic and dirty cities, and later form the suburbs as well.

The grounds and golf courses were meticulously manicured. The swimming pools were immaculate and inviting. The accommodations, luxurious. The meals were unequaled. And the entertainment; singers and dancers and comedians that rivaled any of the great hotels of the heydays in Atlantic City or Las Vegas!

And then, one day – as if overnight – they were gone… leaving little behind to remind us they were ever there.

But they were there. And they DID leave evidence behind.

Join Catskill Resort Historian Alex Prizgintas as he comes to the Lincoln Depot Museum not only to tell the tale of the great Catskill Resort era in our own backyard,

but also to share some of the collected artifacts and ephemera from those famous hotels with names that live on in both memory and history: Kutchers, The Pines, The Tamarack, The Concord.

It’s a wonderful journey to another time and another place – not so long ago or far away. Join us for the trip
