SANITATION CODE 485. GARBAGE, RUBBISH AND REFUSE

Garbage containers cannot exceed thirty-two ( 32 ) GALLONS IN SIZE OR EXCEED SEVENTY ( 70 ) POUNDS IN WEIGHT.

Containers must be watertight and equipped with a tight fitting lid. This is a standard size garbage container, readily available locally and in larger department stores at a nominal cost. A thirty-two ( 32) gallon garbage bag of sufficient strength may also be used as an alternative, but as a word of caution, the City of Peekskill will not be responsible for breakage of waste containers or bags.

No more than four ( 4 ) thirty-two ( 32) gallon waste containers of garbage shall be picked up from any residence or business per week except as follows:

• Multi–Family Residences to High Density Multi-Family Complexes that require the use of one- and-one half ( 1-1/2 ) cubic yard containers must pay a user fee of $18.00 per container per collection.
• Businesses that require the use of one-and-one half ( 1-1/2 ) cubic yard containers must pay a user fee of $22.50 per container per collection.

For approved curbside collection, garbage, trash and recycling shall be placed at curbside only after 6 pm on the night before and by 6 am on the day of collection.

Garbage is classified as normal household waste, to be drained and wrapped in bags before being placed into an approved container.

SNOW AND ICE MUST NOT HINDER COLLECTION. CONTAINERS MUST BE EASILY ACCESSED
