SANITATION CODE 485. GARBAGE, RUBBISH AND REFUSE
Garbage containers cannot exceed thirty-two ( 32 ) GALLONS IN SIZE OR EXCEED SEVENTY ( 70 ) POUNDS IN WEIGHT.
Containers must be watertight and equipped with a tight fitting lid. This is a standard size garbage container, readily available locally and in larger department stores at a nominal cost. A thirty-two ( 32) gallon garbage bag of sufficient strength may also be used as an alternative, but as a word of caution, the City of Peekskill will not be responsible for breakage of waste containers or bags.
No more than four ( 4 ) thirty-two ( 32) gallon waste containers of garbage shall be picked up from any residence or business per week except as follows:
- Multi–Family Residences to High Density Multi-Family Complexes that require the use of one- and-one half ( 1-1/2 ) cubic yard containers must pay a user fee of $18.00 per container per collection.
- Businesses that require the use of one-and-one half ( 1-1/2 ) cubic yard containers must pay a user fee of $22.50 per container per collection.
For approved curbside collection, garbage, trash and recycling shall be placed at curbside only after 6 pm on the night before and by 6 am on the day of collection.
Garbage is classified as normal household waste, to be drained and wrapped in bags before being placed into an approved container.
